Dealing With Paper

There are no file cabinets at RealtyV2 world headquarters.

Documents live on-line in various redundant locations including Box.net and DocuSign.  They can easily be reviewed and retrieved from most internet connected devices.

This year I retired my HP multi-printer for a Lexmark for my printing needs.  The machine is capable of dual sided printing, black and white, and color when necessary.  The black cartridge can be purchased for $4.95 at Office Depot, good enough for 500 hundred pages.

The only time that I use a printer is to provide Clients a base printout of an area that we will be looking in.  Some time in the future I am sure this will be accomplished by electronic tablets, but right now having the data in an easy to read format in the field is worth the paper.  Clients are free to make notes and comments that can be reviewed later as homes tend to blur together after 6 or 10 previews.

The printer that I use at RealtyV2′s headquarters is a wireless web connected printer, scanner, and fax.  The model number is Platinum Pro 905 which has a five year warranty. Part of being green is to purchase equipment that has a long service life rather than sending cheap printers to the recycler.

Besides the long warranty and inexpensive operating costs of ink, one of the reasons that I purchased the Lexmark was the integration with Box.net.  For those times where I need to get a piece of paper into our digital file storage, the Lexmark makes it really easy to scan and e-mail with the touch of one button.
